ocr: Big AL "Big AL" as we know today was the brainchild of the 1979 Homecoming Chairman, Craig Cantrell, and a group of students wanting to create more spirit on the sidelines during Alabama games. The original date for unveiling the mascot was the Auburn game, but the suit that was made by a costume company in New York (Eazes & Brooks) did not arrive in time for the game, so the unveiling was during the Sugar Bowl in 1980 vs. Arkansas.
